Number of years you have been a resident of the city
(
Demographics / Personal Info )
|
Over 35 years |
|
Are you in basic agreement with the direction the City is currently taking to promote expansion and growth?
(
General )
|
Yes. I feel that Olathe has consistently achieved a superior balance between growth of business and industry and providing an excellent quality of life for our citizens. We continue to achieve economic growth and development attracting needed job opportunities for our work force and a managed growth in quality neighborhoods for families. |
|
What suggestions, if any, would you have as a member of the City Council to promote collaboration between members of the Council, city staff, and the community in achieving strategic directions established for the City of Olathe?
(
General )
|
We should always be aware of the priorities and needs of our residents. City sponsored forums using a procedure similar to those put on during the citywide strategic planning process encourages input and involvement from the community. More input from the community will lead to ownership and support of decisions and direction of the council. |
|
What do you see as the major role of the City Council?
(
General )
|
The major role City Council is to serve as the legislative body for city government. As policy makers, the Council oversees a broad scope of responsibilities as they approve resolutions and ordinances, approve the city budget and determine the tax rate, and appoint the citizens of the city to local boards. One of the main functions of the Council is their responsibility to hire the City Manager and supervise the manager’s performance. A prime focus of the council is strategic planning in which they set the direction of the community by evaluating short term/ long term goals, major projects, capital improvement plans, and financing. |
|
As a member of City Council, what would your major priorities be for the City for the next 10 to 15 years?
(
General )
|
• Balanced growth
• Revenue growth
• Traffic congestion
• Citizen involvement
• Quality of life issues
• Controlling taxes
|
|
Would you support additional sources of revenues to meet high priority needs of public safety, transportation, and economic development?
(
General )
|
Public safety, transportation and economic development must have the highest priority of funding. All present revenue sources should be carefully scrutinized and additional sources of revenue should be researched, but always with consideration of the impact on our community.
|
What level of priority would you place on the following?
- Public safety
- Traffic and streets
- Consensus building and stability in leadership
(
General )
|
Public safety – Highest priority
Traffic and streets – High priority
Consensus and stability in leadership – High Priority --- Based on my experience in working with teams, groups and organizations, when groups have a stability in leadership and are able to use collaboration and consensus to make decisions, a higher level of quality results are achieved.
|
|
What are the three biggest challenges the City of Olathe faces and what should be done to address them?
(
General )
|
The challenge is to provide a stable city government that provides the quality of life we have come to expect with a changing and limited source of sufficient revenue.
Public safety (Police – Fire – Emergency needs) – The safety of our residents should always be of the highest priority.
Traffic and associated infrastructure (walkways, parks, water, etc.)
Provide a stable city government that governs with fiscal discipline
|
|
Do you support current policy on economic development tax incentives? If no, please specify recommended additions or deletions to the policy.
(
General )
|
Yes, incentives should be considered. |
