Number of years you have been a resident of the city ( Demographics / Personal Info ) No response offered
Are you in basic agreement with the direction the City is currently taking to promote expansion and growth? ( General ) Yes, I’m supportive of the current direction of the City by expanding our tax base with regional commercial development.
What suggestions, if any, would you have as a member of the City Council to promote collaboration between members of the Council, city staff, and the community in achieving strategic directions established for the City of Olathe? ( General ) I would suggest continuing with the current practice of the public forums and encourage the council and the staff to interact more with the County Commission because the Commission will have more to do with the downtown improvements.
What do you see as the major role of the City Council? ( General ) The City Council’s major role is being a policy board. Its purpose is to pass policies reflected in the City’s budget.
As a member of City Council, what would your major priorities be for the City for the next 10 to 15 years? ( General ) As a member of the City Council, my major priorities would be insuring financial stability and sustainable growth, also encourage innovative business practices and entrepreneurship.

Meet the challenges and demands of traffic flow around busy
intersections and the congested areas downtown.

Continue to provide the high quality services we share in our community without compromising the budget.

Provide and preserve our safety services to protect our citizens and to keep up with the city’s growth challenges.
Would you support additional sources of revenues to meet high priority needs of public safety, transportation, and economic development? ( General ) I believe more thought should be put into utilizing economic development of tax incentives.
To cap it’s use because of competitive inequalities and we should not penalize the tax payer.

Before recommending a policy change a committee should be developed to discuss the proper limits for the use of tax increment financing, what the goals are to be achieved and what are the benefits from that goal.
What level of priority would you place on the following?
  • Public safety
  • Traffic and streets
  • Consensus building and stability in leadership
( General )
Public safety is job one.
Then traffic and streets.

Consensus building is the glue that holds things together, where you’ve been and where your going. Continuity, but there is need for innovative thought.
What are the three biggest challenges the City of Olathe faces and what should be done to address them? ( General ) The biggest challenges the City of Olathe faces is presently the demands of Traffic flow. With the city’s future growth it will be the biggest problem we come to face and this where we have to meet the challenge by a permanent selection a committee to address the issue.

Continue to provide the high quality services we share in our community without compromising the budget.

Provide and preserve our safety services to protect our services to protect our citizens and to keep up with the city’s growth challenges.

Do you support current policy on economic development tax incentives? If no, please specify recommended additions or deletions to the policy. ( General ) Again, more thought should be given to utilizing economic development tax incentives to cap iit’s use and with that, a balance needs to be struck. A committee needs to be formed to discuss or determine the proper limits for the use of tax increment financing. What are the benefits under the current policy and unnecessary use of tax incentives.
